So. . . what happened in the month I was incommunicado? Well, I ate my first nectarine of the season. It was red and white and juicy and I'm sure the word sweet was coined to describe its essence, but it was not too sweet, and the juice running down my chin was summer's blatant proclamation of its arrival.
