This early morning is blessedly cool. It won't last, I'll be working in 80-degree temperatures today, but at least it won't be as stifling as the past weekend. The last four days, I've been moving horses (and artists) out of the path of wildfires in three Southern California counties. Four days of grinding anxiety enlivened by a few moments of pure hellishness.
No, I didn't do anything heroic.
But I am very grateful that today my most arduous job will be mowing a half-acre meadow, far far away from the ash fall.
